How can I remove a spill from my rug?
General cleaning tips: Do not saturate or soak the stain. Use a solution of diluted laundry detergent and water, apply it to the area with a clean cloth blotting as you go from the outside of the stain to the center. Dry the area with a fan or blow dryer and then brush the pile down gently.
How often should I have my rug professionally cleaned?
Depending on the traffic a rug receives, we recommend having it professionally cleaned once every one to three years.
How can I tell if my rug is a high quality piece?
Knot density and wool quality are generally two good indicators of a fine rug. All things equal a finer woven rug is generally better than a coarser woven piece. This is so because the finer knotting allows for more detailed execution of curves and intricate designs. However, this does not mean that a coarse rug is by default a rug of lesser value. Many tribal rugs are considered valuable simply for the craft and artistry that goes into the production of the piece. Many times, because they have not been a part of a commercial production (i.e. they were originally woven for use by the weaver) they are more rare. Regardless of knot density the quality of the materials used to weave the rug is always an indicator of quality. Good wool, when dyed and finished properly, has a natural luster and depth of color that lesser grade materials simply can not attain. The best of today’s rugs are woven with high grade wool, naturally dyed in small batches and finished in such a way that they do not look dry or splotchy with a touch of sheen without being too glossy.
Is a rug pad necessary?
Strictly speaking rug pads are not necessary. However we do recommend using them for the following reasons; Rugs pads prevent slippage and can prevent injuries resulting from slips, rug pads tend to dampen noise, rug pads may extend the life of the rug in cases where the surface is uneven (stone floors).
Will Rug Pads last forever?
Rug pads will wear out long before the rug does if it is a good rug. Our experience has shown that a good quality pad should last at least 5 years.
Can rug pads discolor a floor?
This depends and on the surface. If a floor is brand new and has not aged or cured fully, the application of a rug or rug pad on top of it has the potential to slightly discolor a floor. Rooms with a great deal of light are also subject to fading.

How big of a rug do I need (if my room is x feet by x feet)?
We get asked this question often and there really is no standard formula. However there are a couple of rules of thumb that can help you estimate how big of a rug you need.
Most full dining room table sets will require a 9x12 or larger. You want the chairs to remain on the rug when you pull them out to be seated.
The all on or all off rule. In general, when you are looking at a rug for a room, you want it to fit in such a way that either all of your furniture is on the rug or all of the furniture is off the rug (but not half on and half off).
When you are measuring a room, pay attention to any floor vents and fireplace hearths that may restrict the usable size of the room.
How can I tell if I have a real silk rug?
Unfortunately, some of the rugs on the market that are said to be silk are actually mercerized cotton (a process of submersing cotton fibers a strong caustic soda solution causing them to swell and develop a high luster). A quick way to tell which you have is to burn a fiber of it. Silk, when burnt, exudes a distinct smell of burning hair which can be very pungent. The mercerized cotton will not do so.
